Photography
Photography is extremely important in journalism, and is one of my favorite parts about it! Being behind the camera trains my eyes and gives me a good sense for angles, which is useful when I'm planning layouts for visual hierarchy and creativity. When I know how to frame a shot, I know exactly how to frame a page. Having a visual intuition strengthens my page design for Winged Post, where I can build spreads where the text and images complement each other and look physically pleasing across a page.
Feature Photography
Feature Photography is all about the people behind the stories, and my goal is to capture portraits that reveal the depths of subjects that people may not know about. A strong profile needs a strong visual hook, so I focus on getting environmental portraits that can tell the reader exactly who this person is.

Sports Photography
Playing varsity water polo, soccer, and swimming gives me a huge advantage when covering athletics. I really know the rhythm of the games and can recognize exactly what the timing is and where the ball is going. In Winged Post, high-energy photos are absolutely necessary for drawing readers in, so capturing that peak action perfectly translates there.
Swimming
Water sports are notoriously difficult to shoot because of the splashing and unpredictable lighting. I focus on capturing the raw intensity in the swimmers' expressions and finding unique angles right at the water's edge to give the coverage a dynamic, high-speed feel.

Water Polo
When I cover, I try to anticipate the passes and shots. I look for the physical battles above the water and the split-second decisive moments that ultimately make or break a water polo game.

Soccer
Since soccer is my favorite sport, so I love to cover it. I focus on tracking the fast-paced movement across the field to frame the players' footwork and capture the emotion of the players.

Volleyball
Homecoming live coverage was actually my very first time shooting volleyball, and it ended up being an incredible experience. The fast-paced, back-and-forth nature of the game forced me to adapt my framing instantly. The resulting photos brought a ton of energy to our live news updates and proved I can jump into an unfamiliar environment and still deliver great shots.
